Leaning

was commissioned by Cumulus Dance in 2022 and restaged in 2023.

Inspired by the concept of friendship and intimacy, in a world that puts these relationships on the sidelines. As we move into adulthood and our professional or family life comes to the forefront, often our friendships get pushed to the side.

In Leaning we see this struggle between pushing away and allowing others to care for us.

premiere: First Fridays, McGuffey Arts Center, Charlottesville, VA May 2022

Re-Staging: Re/Turn a collaboration dance performance, Cumulus Dance, Harrisonburg Dance Coop. EMU Mainstage Theater, Harrisonburg, VA Feb 2023

Primavera

Created for the Fae Festival and IX Art Park in Charlottesville Va, Olivia choreographed with dancers from Cumulus Dance to create a 5 part celebration of Spring.

Inspired by Renaisannce painting ‘La Primavera’ by Sandro Boticelli (1455-1510) and his embracing of classical themes/myths, Primavera also calls on similar themes celebrated through the life and creations of Isadora Duncan (1877-1927) famous American modern dance pioneer.

Although living centuries apart, these two artists share their love of beauty, joy and one might say mysticism or spirituality outside of the norms of each of their respective societies.

The elegance of Greek Statues, the freedoms of flowing dress and nymph like expression of the body, venerated by Boticelli and Duncan alike, a continuation of tradition through live dance, PRIMAVERA.
